Pep Guardiola appears to be a wanted man as the Dutch FA sound him out as a potential Netherlands coach.
Under contract at the Etihad Stadium until 2023, the Spaniard and his star-studded Manchester City squad are in pole position to win their fourth Premier League title in five seasons.
City dropped points on Saturday afternoon when they were held to a 1-1 draw by Southampton.
However, before that, they put together staggering 12-game winning streak to leave second-placed Liverpool and others behind.
European honours continue to evade the former Barcelona and Bayern Munich coach, though, ever since touching down in the UK in 2016. Of course, the Blues were beaten 1-0 by Chelsea in the Champions League showpiece last May.
And Guardiola penned an extension to his contract last August that will take him to the end of a seventh season. That was when the Dutch FA (KNVB) first came calling for his services.
According to reports in The Mirror, they were told Guardiola — a disciple of Dutch footballing legend Johan Cruyff — had 'unfinished business' with the Premier League champions.
Unperturbed by that set-back, the KNVB have drawn up plans to convince the City manager that he should step into the international arena whenever he does decide to leave the Etihad Stadium.
City, though, remain confident that he will stay put beyond his current deal.
Where will Guardiola go when he eventually leaves City? Have your say in the comments section below.
Guardiola is represented by his brother, Pere, who recently joined forces with influential Dutch agency SEG.
The 51-year-old has spoken previously about his desire to manage an international team. It was, of course, mentor Cruyff that introduced 'total football' to the world with the Netherlands during the 1970s.
Guardiola progressed through the ranks as a player at the Nou Camp under the late, great Dutchman.
