Pep Guardiola discusses Man City's Pedro Porro clause and gives Tottenham transfer verdict

Pep Guardiola has admitted that new Tottenham signing Pedro Porro was on their list in January but they did not think about activating his buy-back clause. Making a huge impression for Sporting CP since linking up with them in 2020, the 23-year-old had in fact moved to the Portuguese side from Man City after they had initially purchased him from Girona a year earlier.

With Spurs in need of a player to transform their right wing-back position, the club turned to the Spaniard after contributing 12 goals and 20 assists in his 98 appearances for Sporting. Amid a few concerns that City could look to take up their option to re-sign Porro and hand Spurs a major blow in the process, Tottenham got their man on deadline day and he could now be in line to make his debut against the Premier League champions on Sunday.

"Perfect to play five at the back, last season we suffer when we play against Sporting. This season Tottenham vs Sporting, a good signing for Spurs," said Guardiola, as reported by Manchester Evening News, when asked about Porro in his pre-match press conference.
