Pep Guardiola details Man City's Joao Cancelo stance as Phil Foden injury boost detailed

City's Cancelo stance

Manchester City will review Joao Cancelo's position at the club at the end of the season, according to Pep Guardiola.

Cancelo was a shock departure in January, with Bayern Munich swooping in to take the experienced Portugal international on a loan deal with an option to buy after he fell out of favour with Guardiola and lost his place in the team. While player and club indicated that there could be a reunion, it was not expected.

However, things have not gone to plan for Cancelo at Bayern either. Despite a quick start, and his consistent ability to deliver assists, he has also failed to start recent big games in Munich. Bayern boss Julian Nagelsmann praised his replacement in the team for his performance in the Champions League last-16 win over Paris Saint-Germain.

Phil Foden latest

Pep Guardiola indicated that Phil Foden will be free to face Crystal Palace after taking a knock against Newcastle.

Foden put in another inspired performance last Saturday to score his fourth goal in a week and propel City to a 2-0 win over the north-east outfit that keeps the pressure on Arsenal at the top of the Premier League table. City still trail by five points in the title race, but nobody can rule them out given the experience and quality they have.

That now includes Stockport's Foden, now rejuvenated after a frustrating four months for the club where injuries and form saw him struggle to get in the team and stay in it. His last three starts have all given no reason to drop him, although the 22-year-old admitted after the Newcastle game that he had suffered some more trouble in a foot injury that has been plaguing him.
