People urged to have their say on Concorde Way cycling and walking route

Lockleaze residents and those who walk or cycle along Concorde Way are being asked to share their thoughts on the improvements they would like to see on the route. Bristol City Council is looking to improve a section of Concorde Way, which connects Stoke Gifford in the north to Cabot Circus in the city centre.

Unlike much of the route, which is situated off-road and away from traffic, the Lockleaze section is partly on-road, including at Dovercourt Road, Lockleaze Road and Constable Road. Before city designers start working on options that include on-road and possible off-road solutions, local people and anyone who uses Concorde Way are being encouraged to give their views about how it could be made safer and more pleasant.

The survey is asking for people's thoughts about this section of the route so a design concept can be developed for an 'improved on-road option' and possibilities can be looked into further around whether an off-road option could be put in place there. The survey also mentions other changes to the area, including the development of the existing depot east of Dovercourt Road, which is now out of use and currently pending planning permission to build 140 homes.

This project will consider the changes and access points from this new development to Concorde Way and look at the opportunities to improve connections and signage. It is in addition to the imminent works being carried out on Muller Road.

Councillor Don Alexander, cabinet member for transport, said: “Lockleaze is a growing neighbourhood, with more houses set to be built. To make sure our road and cycling network keeps pace with local growth, we are looking at all the ways we can help communities switch to sustainable travel options, such as public transport and walking and cycling.

“Work is set to start this summer on improvements to Muller Road, including installing a 24-hour bus lane, and we are now turning our attention to the Concorde Way cycling and walking route. Concorde Way is a fantastic resource, and we want even more people to start using it. By walking and cycling more of your journeys, not only will you relieve pressure on local roads and reduce air pollution, you will also get all the benefits of being outdoors and taking some health-boosting exercise.

“We now need your early thoughts to help us shape our designs for the route. This includes how much you use Concorde Way, what would encourage you to use it more, and what matters to you most about the route.”

You can share your thoughts by filling in a quick online survey here, by Sunday, September 4. If you have a comment, question or would like to request the survey in another format, you can send an email to transport.engagement@bristol.gov.uk, or phone 0117 903 6449 and leave a message on the answerphone.
