Cooking oil is a staple in every household and is an essential ingredient to nearly every dish.
However, after pouring through countless bottles, people are finally discovering that the little plastic pull tab serves a more important purpose than just keeping the bottle secure in stores. When pouring through oil, it's a common mistake to accidentally pour too much, ruining salads or making food unnecessarily greasy.
Well, believe it or not, the ring pull that you probably rip off the bottle can help you control the amount of oil you pour out. TikTok user Cooking Cards posted a video on the social media site showcasing this simple trick, the Mirror reports.

In the video, he said: "Ah, don't you hate it when you're pouring oil and it makes a mess everywhere? Well, I do, and trust me, try this hack and you will thank me later."
He then goes on to remove the pull tab as normal and turn it upside down, forcing it back into where the oil pours from. This creates enough space around the sides of the plastic tab for the oil to filter through but at a much slower and controllable rate.
Viewers were left stunned by the hack, many of whom confessed they have been overpouring their oil this whole time.
One user wrote: "Can't believe I did not know this", followed by some exasperated emojis. Another commented: "Brilliant! I'll be using this!"
"I've lived my whole life not knowing this", someone else fumed. "This is genius", another TikToker praised.
