Across Wales, many people have a regular pub they visit, whether it be for the cheap pints, the atmosphere, or respect for the owners. We asked WalesOnline readers where they would choose if they could only drink in one Welsh pub forever - and hundreds responded sharing the love for their hometown favourites.
Readers listed spots from all around the country, from Pembrokeshire pubs with seaside views to classic venues in Wales’ capital city. Branded ‘the most famous pub in Cardiff,’ the Old Arcade was the most popular among readers. The venue is home to a huge collection of rugby memorabilia, and tables are hard to come by on match days.
Located on Church Street, Old Arcade also boasts a wide selection of food, from steaks and fish and chips to burgers and nachos. William Morgan said: “This is one of the pubs in Cardiff. I always try to pop into for a pint when I visit Cardiff.”

Another Cardiff favourite was Highfields Inn. Located in Ely, this traditional pub is under the same ownership as the Old Arcade. With a range of options on store for events – including bingo, a wooden dance area, and a juke box – the venue was a favourite for those looking for a local spot.
In Pembrokeshire, Wisemans Bridge Inn was the top choice for those looking for a pub with a view. Perched on the beachfront overlooking Carmarthen Bay, the pub has a range of real ales on offer. Many people visit just for the food, as Wisemans Bridge offers menus for hot buffets, high tea, and Sunday lunches. Karen Dally said: "It has views of a perfect beach and beautiful Pembrokeshire." While Janet Mence added: "Can't beat Wisemans Bridge Inn."
Pembrokeshire proved itself to house a number of great pubs, with Lawrenny Arms also voted as one of the best. Visitors can enjoy waterside views in a large outdoor seating area, with many people happy with the competitively priced drinks. If you're looking for food, the Sunday roast and crab are highly recommended. The Sloop Inn in Porthgain was also mentioned as the best place to drink in forever.
In Grosmont, Monmouthshire, many voted The Angel Inn as the pub they'd choose to drink in forever. With the charm of an old Welsh inn, people raved about their expansive selection of gins, wine, and beer, coupled with a tasty food menu. Alex Hill said: It's warm and cosy in the winter, and has a great beer garden in the summer. The food is amazing, too."
Andrew Stumpf said of the pub: "The Angel Inn at Grosmont obviously. Excellent food, ales and atmosphere not to mention the occasional music." For more food and drink news sign up to our newsletter here.
Meanwhile, many people reeled off a number of pubs that have now closed that they wished were still open for a pint. And Gareth Evans added: "Anywhere that isn't a Wetherspoons."
