Channel 4 Food Unwrapped viewers say they feel 'physically sick' after finding out what the wax which coats most lemons is made from. Millions of the people who buy lemons every day will be familiar with the wax layer you'll find on top.
As such, Channel 4 presenters Kate Quilton and Matt Tebbutt wanted to find out exactly why our lemons are so waxy. The Food Unwrapped presenting duo headed across the globe in their quest for information.
On their travels, it became apparent to the pair that the wax around lemons contains shellac. This was surprising to beauty-lovers, who best know shellac as a nail polish.
