Beeston described as 'lovely community' despite reports of anti-social behaviour reports

Residents in Beeston say that the town is normally lovely and that they feel lucky to live there despite reports of anti-social behaviour and police patrolling the area. The Beeston Beat team were out patrolling on April 15 and 16 following recent issues in the town.

The Beat Team reported they had no issues patrolling on April 15, however they attended a number of incidents on April 16. People that live in Beeston were surprised by this and told Nottinghamshire Live they hope it’s a one off as it’s a lovely area.

Eileen Hartley, 77, has lived in Beeston since 1978 and says the area is normally safe and that the town is nice. She said: “We are pretty lucky around here - even when it’s busy it’s a civilised busy. It’s a really nice place. I was absolutely surprised, I can't believe it’s actually local - you never see that normally.

“We don’t have massive visible patrolling because it’s not necessary. You can walk down here after closing time and not many shops have shutters. I’m 77 and I'm happy to walk here at night and that says something.”

The hi-visibility police patrols took place in and around Beeston town centre, Wilmot Lane, Chilwell Road, Ireland Avenue, Tesco's Extra Station Road, Sainsburys Stoney Street, and Eskdale Park Chilwell. Another resident of Beeston, Tim Kime, who is 39 and a painter and decorator, told Nottinghamshire Live that he thinks the patrolling is a good thing.

Mr Kime said: “It’s a nice lovely area. You look around the area and see things going on and then see the police around. They’re doing a good job, the police are.”

In March Beeston residents were shocked and disappointed when youths were arrested on suspicion of possession of a bladed article on Dovecote Lane Recreation Ground.

Linda Moran, who is 65 and retired, says she hopes it’s a one off because of the nice community. She said: “It’s nice and quiet - it’s the first I've ever heard.

“It’s normally a lovely community - it’s elderly, students and families. It’s good they’re protecting people and will stop this in the future. I just hope it’s a one off - it’s sad to me because it’s a lovely community.”

Broxtowe South Police said: “Beeston beat team have been conducting patrols in Beeston and the surrounding areas. If you have concerns about antisocial behaviour or any other issues in Beeston town centre and surrounding areas, please contact the Beeston neighbourhood policing team.”
