People have begun to lay flowers outside Buckingham Palace following news that the Queen is under medical supervision. As senior royals travelled to Balmoral to see the monarch hundreds of members of the public began to gather outside her London home.
A woman laid the first bouquet at the central London residence just after 5pm. Hundreds of others have begun to gather as the day went on.
A downpour had drenched many of those waiting at the gates. However this has abated, leaving a hushed silence among those gathered.
As people gathered in London senior royals travelled to Balmoral in Scotland to be with the Queen. Earlier on Thursday an official announcement was made to say she was under medical supervision.
A Palace spokesperson said: “Following further evaluation this morning, the Queen’s doctors are concerned for Her Majesty’s health and have recommended she remain under medical supervision. The Queen remains comfortable and at Balmoral.”
Since then royals including her four children – The Prince of Wales, the Princess Royal, the Duke of York and the Earl of Wessex – are either at her bedside or on their way, joined by the Duchess of Cornwall and the Countess of Wessex.
An RAF plane that landed in Aberdeen just before 4pm was carrying the Duke of Cambridge, Andrew, Edward and Sophie. The Duke of Sussex is travelling alone without the Duchess of Sussex, who had been planning to accompany him to Scotland.
