The Russian opposition leader Alexei Navalny has died in jail, the country’s prison service has said.

Navalny’s spokesperson said that his team could not immediately confirm his death, and said his lawyer was travelling to the remote area where he was being held.

We want to hear from people in Russia and Russians living abroad, about their reaction to the news. How do you feel? Has it come as a shock or were you expecting it? What will this mean for Russian politics? What are your concerns?

Please note that while we’d like to hear from you, your security is most important. We recognise it may not always be safe or appropriate to record or share your experiences – so please think about this when considering whether to get in touch with the Guardian. We won’t publish anything without getting in touch first.
