The UK’s mental health is probably the worst it has ever been – with the cost-of-living crisis, aftermath of the Covid pandemic and global instability pushing people to the brink, the head of a major charity has warned.
Dr Sarah Hughes, who became chief executive of Mind in January, said the charity was concerned about the impact of the cost-of-living crisis. She said that despite the Britain's mental health suffering, the issue has fallen down the political agenda.
She warned that the pandemic, cost-of-living crisis and ensuing global instability could drive vulnerable people to suicide. She added: “We are really worried, this feels like a bit of a perfect storm that we need to take hold of.
