A Welsh phrase read out by Alexa has taken social media by storm. In a series of TikTok videos, people are asking their smart speaker device to translate something from English to Welsh about Prime Minister Boris Johnson, which leads to an amusing result.
As demonstrated in one video shared by a TikTok account called football_ben, if you ask your Amazon device to say: "Boris Johnson carrots coffee bean 100 in Welsh", it replies with a translation that you might think sounds similar to "Boris Johnson moron f*** off, ye c**t".

To break it down, the word 'carrot' in Welsh is 'moron', 'coffee bean' means 'ffa coffi' and '100' is pronounced as 'cant'. For English speakers, the composition of the words may seem obscene and lead to humorous results.
So far, the video has gathered more than 235,100 views and 4,600 comments. Some users revealed that they had also tried to do the same thing, while others shared their amusement over the translation. In response to football_ben's video, one account said: "Yes I am a Welsh person and this is true".
Another one said: "I'm Welsh and proud. Even more so now." Another account responded with: "I am crying and laughing - love this". Another one added: "When you said it my Alexa thought I was talking so it did it and my mum told me off".
Others suggested they should use Russian President Vladimir Putin instead of Boris Johnson, while others offered interesting translations from English to French.
For those who don't have an Alexa however, similar translation services are available with Siri on an iPhone and Google Translate. But for some Welsh-language music lovers, a similar gaffe was coined a long time ago thanks to Gruff Rhys' band, Ffa Coffi Pawb, which literally translates to 'Everyone's Coffee Beans', but a play on words may imply something else.
