People arrive at work to find police cordon after woman's death

People working near Queen Square bus station this morning were rocked when they came into work to find a police cordon and a white tent set up.

Merseyside Police confirmed this morning that officers were called to the Queen Square Q Park at around 1.30am today (Wednesday, November 23) after the death of a woman who reportedly fell from the car park.

She was pronounced dead at the scene and police quickly set up an investigation into her death. Officers said the woman's next of kin have been informed, and enquiries into the incident are ongoing.

Detectives believe the incident not to be suspicious, at this time. The car park is closed while investigations continue.

The owner of Tez Newsagents on Whitechapel spoke to the ECHO and explained that he was told to go and come back when the cordon was removed, with him thinking he had been broken into when he arrived at work this morning to police outside his shop.

He said: "When I came in this morning I thought I’d been broken into with the police outside but they just said to go away and they’d call me when I could open up. I normally open at 7.30am but had to open at 9am.

"It is what it is, it has to be done, they let me in when they took the tape down."

One woman, Megan, who works at Ask Italian in the square, described it as "horrible" coming into work to find emergency services and a tent set up. She said: "We were gonna drive into the car park at 6.30am but we couldn’t because it was all blocked off. It’s horrible seeing police here at that time.

"They’ve only just opened it all back up I think."
