With less than three weeks to go before the start of training camp, the odds of the Los Angeles Lakers trading Russell Westbrook are growing slimmer.
Attempts to trade him for Kyrie Irving or for two or three complementary players, such as Buddy Hield and Myles Turner, have gone nowhere all summer long.
It is starting to feel like the Lakers may actually hold on to Westbrook and try to make the most of what many consider to be an ugly situation, at least according to Brian Windhorst.
Via Lakers Daily:
“Brian Windhorst stated (at the 59:15 mark) on his podcast that the Lakers will simply make an effort to make the situation work.
“‘Based on the executives I’m talking to, they believe that the Lakers have come to the conclusion that they are not going to trade Westbrook now because they don’t like any of their offers and they’re going to try to make the best of it and see what happens,’ Windhorst said. ‘That’s what the executives think.'”
There is always the chance that trade offers for Westbrook become somewhat better closer to the trade deadline, as other teams won’t have to be responsible for all of the $47 million he is owed this coming season. There could also be at least one trade partner that emerges that has a player or multiple players who are available and would be useful to the Lakers.
