You'd be forgiven for mindlessly going through Walkers crisps before realising that all the bags have a particular feature in common.
Moreish as they are, crisps are hard to put down. But if you do, you might join the leagues of people who have been baffled to realise all Walkers packets go out of date on a Saturday.
Fans of the famous crisps brand have asked Walkers about the detail so much that the it features on their Frequently Asked Question page.
There's even an old Facebook page dedicated to it named 'All crisps go out of date on a Saturday, FACT', reports the Mirror. But for anyone curious, the real reason behind the uniform expiry date is pretty mundane.
A Reddit user took to the Casual UK forum to point out: "Please also be aware, every single packet of Walker's crisps go out of date on Saturdays."
Another person checked and confirmed that it was the case, commenting: "Just checked all crisps in my house, can confirm all expire on a Saturday. WTF?"
A question on Walkers' FAQ page asks: "Is it true the Best Before date on Walkers crisps is always a Saturday?"
Walkers explains: "It’s absolutely true! Our production week starts on a Sunday, with everything made that week having the same Best Before date. So when our recommended 12 week shelf life is up, the end date will therefore land on (you guessed it) – Saturday."
