A woman on TikTok explained what the true use of the extra red bulb packaged with Christmas lights is used for.
The festive spirit is in the air as it's officially the most wonderful time of the year. Households across the UK will no longer be discouraged from diving into their Christmas decorations as December allows the country to unashamedly crack into the holidays.
A must-have for any Christmas tree are the lights, whether they're colourful, flashing, or even musical, but thousands are still in the dark as to what the single extra red bulb in the pack is used for.

Many have assumed it's simply a replacement but that is apparently not the case. After a woman on TikTok's explanation went viral, countless people have been left stunned to discover the bulb's true use.
Her video, which was shared with the popular video-streaming service, has surpassed a whopping 19.2 million views since posting. The woman started with a quick demonstration of how to remove a plain white bulb with the red.
She said: "Remove the regular bulb and replace it." The extra light is not only different in colour from the rest, but it also gives the string of lights a flickering effect rather than using a modern-day remote.
She added: "I was today years old when I found out what these are for." The impact of the flickering addition didn't go unappreciated as viewers flocked to the comment section to share their shock.
One person said: "I thought they were spares." Whilst a second added: "Wait what??????? I thought they were replacements!"
A shocking third used added: "I swear to god this app has taught me more in the last year than I have been alive." Meanwhile, a final said: "Dude all they had to do was write that somewhere on the box. I wasted so many years not knowing about this."
