A warning has been issued to older adults who rely on a personal alarm not to turn off their alarm units in a bid to save money this winter. The UK's leading personal alarm provider, TakingCare Personal Alarms, has warned elderly people not to turn off their alarm as a response to the cost of living crisis.
An energy bill cap of £2,500 from October for a typical household using 12,000 kWh of gas a year and 2,900 kWh of electricity per year has been announced by Prime Minister Liz Truss. However, elderly people relying on state pensions may still face the harsh choice between heating or eating this winter, with the average sum they receive being £567.40 per month.
British Gas has shared that the new average energy bill as of October 2022 for a 1-2 bed house or flat will be £142.69. This means state pension recipients will spend a quarter of their monthly income on energy bills, or for those living in a medium-sized three-bed house, the average energy bill prices will be around £206.32 per month.
