A pensioner who was high on cannibis has been jailed over a crash that killed her partner.
Marguerita Elizabeth, 70, regularly smoked up to 12 bongs a day at the time of the crash and had been using the drug since she was 20.
The pensioner was "significantly impaired" when her car hit a tree at Strathalbyn, Southern Australia, in June last year, a court heard.
Her partner was travelling in the passenger seat and died in hospital after sustaining injuries.
Elizabeth pleaded guilty to the crash, but asked the court for any sentence to be served at home.
However, the judge refused her request and said a strong message had to be sent to other drivers, 9news.au reports.
The septuagenarian was jailed for almost three years.
She will be eligible for parole in 18 months.
Speaking after the sentencing, South Australia Police Commissioner Grant Stevens said the judgement "clearly sends a strong message about potential consequences for that behaviour".
"Hopefully people take heed of that message," Stevens added.
