Pensioner who died after being hit by lorry on Scots high street named by cops

A pedestrian who died after being struck by an articulated lorry in Lanark has been named by police.

Giuseppe Molinaro, from Carluke, died after being struck on the A473, the town's High Street, at around 2.50pm on Monday, July 3.

Emergency services raced to the scene but 83-year-old Mr Molinaro was pronounced dead at the scene. The male driver of the Mercedes lorry was uninjured.

Images from the scene showed police, fire and ambulance crews in attendance. The road was closed to allow for an investigation and reopened around 7.30pm.

Sergeant Andrew Coutts, of the Road Policing Unit in Govan, said: “Our thoughts remain with Mr Molinaro’s family and friends at this time.

“We are continuing with our enquiries to establish the full circumstances surrounding the crash.

“Anyone with information or who may have seen what happened who hasn’t yet spoken to police should contact 101, quoting incident number 2028 of July 3.”
