A pensioner with an income of £1,000 a month says her energy bills have rockets from £146 last year to £500 a month even before rises still to come in October, January and April. Retired civil servant Patricia Beckett, 85, is now giving away half her monthly income to pay for gas and electricity.
Patricia's son said his mum was "quite stressed just thinking about it". "When my mum emailed me about it I had to read it six times because I couldn't believe it," he told The Mirror.
"Half of her income is just going on gas and electricity."
