A pensioner has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after a crash on the A4058.
Emergency services, including South Wales Police and the Welsh Air Ambulance, attended the three-vehicle crash on the A4058 during rush hour on Wednesday, March 2.
The nearby A470 was closed for several hours due to falling debris from the A4058.
An 83-year-old man has been hospitalised with "serious injuries" as a result of the collision.
Crews from South Wales Fire Service were called to the scene at 4.36pm and used hydraulic cutters to remove the roof of the vehicle and get the driver out.
A spokeswoman for the service said crews were called to the crash "involving three private motor vehicles, one of which had hit a bridge". She added that the bridge was "quite badly damaged" and a structural engineer had been called to assess the impact.
A spokesperson for South Wales Police said: “South Wales Police is investigating a serious road traffic collision which happened around 16.30pm yesterday evening, Wednesday March 2, on the A4058 at the roundabout by Sainsbury’s, directly above the A470, Pontypridd.
“The collision involved a blue Toyota Corolla, a black BMW, a grey Jaguar and a black Skoda Octavia.
“The driver of the Toyota Corolla, an 83-year-old man, was conveyed to University Hospital of Wales where he is being treated for serious injuries.
“The A470 was closed for several hours as a result of debris falling from the collision on the roundabout above.
“Officers wish to thank the local community and those affected for their patience during this time.
