A pensioner died and a man was rushed to hospital after the pair were hit by a car on a Scots street.
Emergency services raced to Lesmahagow Road, Strathaven,at around 7pm on Tuesday, January 3 after reports of the incident.
The 78-year-old was pronounced dead at the scene. A 67-year-old man was rushed to the University Hospital Wishaw.
Police said a 61-year-old woman has now been arrested.
Enquiries into the circumstances are ongoing.
Locals reported seeing a heavy police presence in the area. The road remains closed whilst investigations are carried out.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Officers were called to a report of a crash involving two pedestrians and a car off Lesmahagow Road, Strathaven around 7pm on Tuesday, 3 January, 2023.
“A 78-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene. A 67-year-old man was taken by ambulance to University Hospital Wishaw.
“A 61-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the incident and enquiries are ongoing.”
