Pensioner, 71, targeted by bogus workman as Ayrshire police track suspect

A North Ayrshire pensioner was targeted by a bogus workman who demanded cash for plumbing work.

The 71-year-old was at home in Kilwinning's Blacklands Crescent when the individual turned up at their front door unannounced around 4pm on Saturday afternoon.

He claimed to be from a utility company, managed to gain access to the property then asked for money for plumbing which was not required.

However, the suspect left empty-handed and was last seen making off in an unknown direction.

The resident then contacted a family member for advice with police subsequently made aware of what had happened.

Ayrshire police are now investigating with householders always encouraged to be on their guard for cold callers in a bid to shut out scammers.

Residents in the Blacklands Crescent area at the time – who may have seen suspicious activity, been victim to or have information of the suspect male – are asked to contact Police Scotland via 101, quoting incident number 2766 of 4th June.

Alternatively, you can call Crimestoppers on 0800 555111 and give your information anonymously.
