Pennsylvania health care providers gave more than 46,000 MMR vaccine doses in August, nearly double the roughly 25,000 administered in a typical month, the Pennsylvania Department of Health reported Sept. 18. More than 25,000 additional doses were given in the first two weeks of September, as the statewide case count reached 767 across 38 counties.
The figures offer a different picture from national survey data released days earlier. A Reuters/Ipsos poll found that 76% of U.S. adults consider the MMR vaccine safe for children, down from 84% in 2020. The state data suggest that where measles is actively spreading, many residents are still choosing the shot.
