A 74-year-old man from Pennsylvania was taken into custody after making threats to kill former president Donald Trump a day before his rally at Penn State. The incident occurred at the university's office of transportation on Oct. 25, where the man, identified as Paul J. Gavenonis, allegedly expressed his hatred towards Trump.
Gavenonis was reported to have stated, 'I hate Donald Trump. I'd like to shoot that guy,' while making a gun-racking motion with his hand. He further described a scenario of climbing atop a building and mentioned concerns about bringing a gun into the rally without being noticed by students.
A witness at the transportation office, alarmed by Gavenonis' comments and proximity to the rally venue, promptly informed Penn State Police. Subsequently, officers from the agency, in collaboration with the U.S. Secret Service, interviewed Gavenonis.
During the interview, Gavenonis reportedly laughed about Trump and the rally. When questioned about his capability to assassinate the former president, he allegedly responded affirmatively. He also expressed a desire for someone to harm Trump and disclosed the possession of a rifle at his residence.
As a result of his actions, Gavenonis has been charged with disorderly conduct and making terroristic threats. He is currently held without bail at the Centre County Correctional Facility. A preliminary hearing for Gavenonis is scheduled for Wednesday morning at the Centre County Court.
