Penelope Cruz is to reunite with Johnny Depp on 'Day Drinker'.
The Spanish actress has joined the cast of Marc Webb's upcoming thriller, marking her fourth collaboration with the 'Edward Scissorhands' star following 'Blow', 'Pirates of the Caribbean: On Stranger Tides' and 'Murder on the Orient Express'.
The project was first announced in March, but with Sydney Sweeney reported to be starring with Johnny at the time.
The film - which will be the 61-year-old actor's first major studio outing since his high-profile defamation case against ex-wife Amber Heard in 2022 - is based on an original screenplay by Zach Dean and is set on a cruise ship, where a bartender meets a mysterious drinking, only for them to connect in unexpected ways when they get tangled in a criminal underworld.
Adam Fogelson, chair of Lionsgate Motion Picture Group who are making the movie, said in a statement: “'Day Drinker' combines a highly commercial concept with wildly outrageous twists and turns all set in an incredible world, and there is no better filmmaker than Marc or two more perfectly cast actors than Johnny and Penélope to bring that world to life.”
Penelope recently insisted she will always "be a student" of acting and is constantly "exploring and learning" within her profession.
Asked if turning 50 makes her feel different about life and work, she told Britain’s HELLO! magazine: “No. I just love acting. That’s the reason why I became an actress and why I’m still acting now, I love exploring and learning.
“I know that there are some things I’ll be able to do in 20 years that I can’t do now, so there will always be something new to learn.
“I’ll always be a student in my profession. That takes away a lot of fears.”
