Lions right tackle Penei Sewell is one of the best young offensive linemen in the league. Based on the latest polling of players, coaches and team execs, Sewell can remove the “young” qualifier.
ESPN continued its anonymous polling of over 75 league sources to evaluate the top players at each position. Sewell earned the No. 6 spot amongst offensive tackles, his first time making the list. Based on how No. 58 has played in his first two seasons in Detroit, it won’t be the last.
“He’s really talented, a good young player,” one anonymous NFL personnel director said of Sewell. “Playing right tackle probably helps him become a natural left tackle later. Will be a good starter for a long time.”
Lions left tackle Taylor Decker is also a good one, but he did not make the cut. The tackle designations were not evenly divided between left and right.
Sewell joins new Lions safety C.J. Gardner-Johnson on the listings of top-10s at their respective positions.
