Pele was an Aberdeen shareholder as incredible image shows late Brazil legend invested in Pittodrie club

Pele had shares at Aberdeen registered in his name, it has emerged following the footballing icon's sad passing.

The Brazil legend's death was confirmed on Thursday night as he passed away aged 82 following a battle with colon cancer. One of the greatest sporting figures of all time, his passing was immediately followed by tributes and anecdotes from all levels of football, the wider world of sport, and beyond.

He was no stranger to the Scottish game, training at Kilmarnock's Rugby Park and Troon's Portland Park before a friendly with Scotland in 1966, with Troon FC paying tribute to him in the hours following his death as "certainly the greatest ever" to grace their turf. Now, it has emerged he also had a vested interest in Aberdeen, with fan Ally Begg sharing evidence he purchased shares in the club in September 2000.

The picture shows an ordinary share certificate made out to a Edson Arantes do Nascimento - Pele's full name - dated 5 September 2,000 and signed off by the club. Supporter Nick Archibald unearthed the incredible image before it was shared widely on social media.
