Pedro Porro signs, Harry Maguire enquiry, Djed Spence exit - Tottenham deadline day predictions

Transfer deadline day is finally upon us. With the winter market opening for business at the start of the month, we are now in the final few hours of the transfer window before it shuts until the summer.

It looks set to be a very interesting day in N17 as Daniel Levy and Fabio Paratici try to bolster Antonio Conte's squad for the business end of the campaign. One new player has so far come in through the door, with Arnaut Danjuma already making quite the impact for the Lilywhites after his loan move from Villarreal last week.

Pedro Porro is on the lips of all Tottenham fans on deadline day as the club look to finally get a deal over the line for the Sporting CP right wing-back. Other possible deals could potentially come Tottenham's way, although the priority in January was always to bring in a new right wing-back and attacker.

Outgoings will also be on the agenda over the course of the day as a handful of players ideally need to depart on loan to get the regular football they need elsewhere. Bryan Gil has returned to former club Sevilla on loan and Djed Spence is Rennes-bound, with Harvey White potentially joining the duo in exiting on a temporary basis.

football.london's Tottenham writers Alasdair Gold and Rob Guest, as well as Head of Football Lee Wilmot, try to predict the last day of the January 2023 window.

Spurs simply had to push through the Pedro Porro deal because the backlash if they had missed out on another main target signing would have been huge for chairman Daniel Levy. That deal looks like it finally going to get done after 24 hours in the balance and the 23-year-old will bring a new dimension to the right-hand side in Conte's team.

Djed Spence will head out on loan to Rennes, completing his medical on Tuesday morning, and if Porro does arrive, then Spurs will listen to offers for Emerson Royal and possible Matt Doherty but deals for either is easier said than done. Bryan Gil has already gone to Sevilla and unless someone approaches them over Lucas Moura and a replacement can be found, that is likely to be the final bit of attacking transfer business.

Among the youngsters, Harvey White could head out along with one or two of his fellow academy products, while striker Jude Soonsup-Bell arrives from Chelsea. Spurs will monitor the market for late first team transfers but ultimately at this stage, getting Porro over the line will end up being the most important thing.

If Tottenham brought in two first team players last January and they had a transformative effect on the season and Conte will be hoping for similar this time around.

Rob Guest - Tottenham Hotspur reporter

Pedro Porro is very much the priority for Daniel Levy and Tottenham ahead of Tuesday evening's deadline. After so much speculation regarding the right wing-back all month, Spurs will finally get a deal wrapped up and the transfer saga thankfully won't drag on until the final few hours.

As nice as it would be to bring in Piero Hincapie as well as Porro, Spurs may have to wait until the summer to sign the Bayer Leverkusen ace as a transfer at this late stage of the window would cost them quite a large sum. However, a late enquiry for a new centre-back wouldn't hurt as they look to take the backline to the next level.

In terms of outgoings, Djed Spence will get the move he desperately wants as he heads to Rennes for the remainder of the season. The right wing-back joins Bryan Gil in exiting as the Spain Under-21 star has returned to Sevilla with opportunities at Tottenham so hard to come by, thus meaning Lucas Moura remains in N17 until he departs for good in the summer.

Harvey White will also exit on a temporary basis on deadline day after patiently waiting for another move following his loan spell at Portsmouth two years ago. After taking his chance in League One with Pompey, the Championship could be his next port of call as Spurs look to help take his development to the next stage.

Lee Wilmot - Head of Football

Making a prediction for Tottenham on transfer deadline day is like going to a theme park to be told none of the best rides are working. Transfer deadline day promises so much, but for Spurs, particularly this time around, is likely to offer precious little.

I could sit here and predict no new incomings and just a few outgoings - Bryan Gil on loan to Sevilla, Djed Spence on loan to Rennes. And that's probably all that will happen. But I'm going to go out on a limb and say that Daniel Levy and Spurs will, at the very last moment, get a deal for Pedro Porro over the line.

Yes there are complications - Sporting moving the goalposts at this late stage - but I think the deal will happen and Levy will given Antonio Conte what he has been asking for - another right-back.

I'm also predicting Spurs will make a late enquiry for a goalkeeper - no concrete name - in an attempt to bolster their options there with Hugo Lloris in stuttering form of late - but that enquiry will prove fruitless and will become an imperative job for the summer. Spurs will also have a conversation with Manchester United about Harry Maguire, only to be told to come back in the summer so the Red Devils can negotiate swap terms for Harry Kane.

That will mean it's just two incomings in this window though, probably not enough to convince Conte Spurs are capable of challenging for the Premier League title any time soon. The bigger worry will be Harry Kane thinking that, however.
