Pedro Porro officially became a Tottenham player 10 minutes before the end of the January transfer window, despite the club chasing his signature for the entire month. Upon signing, the 23-year-old has signed a five-and-a-half year contract in north London and joins on an initial loan deal with Spurs having an obligation to buy him as part of the agreement in a deal worth €45m (£39.5m).
The release clause appeared to be the main reason a move was delayed and despite it seeming an agreement had been reached, Sporting reneged a significant financial term which meant the move very nearly collapsed at the last minute. Crucial meetings took place on January 30 and both clubs were then able to agree on an initial loan deal with an obligation to buy.
football.london understands the deal was structured as a loan to fit in with Sporting's financial commitments. The Portuguese club need it to show in the next financial year, so the two clubs found a solution to still be able to sign the player now rather than wait until the summer.
