Pedro Neto transfer: Ruben Neves comments speak volumes as Arsenal eye Wolves teammate

Ruben Neves has suggested that Pedro Neto could become a “big player” in world football as Arsenal target a swoop for the winger.

The Gunners have been linked with a move for the Portuguese international for some time and are set to step up their interest in him in the closing week of the current transfer window.

According to reports, the Londoners have made Neto their top target with it being suggested that talks have been held with super agent Jorge Mendes over the last few weeks. Their current interest is not the first time that Arsenal have been linked with a swoop for a Wolves star - Neves having regularly been linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium.

The midfielder has previously given his verdict on Neto and suggested that he could be set to establish himself on the world stage sooner rather than later. Speaking in February 2021, the former Porto star said: “Pedro’s been a fantastic player for us since he came. This season, I think for me, he’s been the best player that we have in the squad.

“He still needs to improve, as does everyone, because we always have something that we can improve, but if he keeps playing like that then he’s going to be a big player in the world of football.

"We are really lucky to have him in our team because he can give us a lot of good things that are not easy to find in a player.”

Neto, 22, initially arrived at Molineux in 2019 in a switch from Serie A giants Lazio having previously represented Portuguese outfit Braga. In the time since, he has gone on to make 95 goals for Wolves, scoring on 11 occasions.

He enjoyed his best season in 2020/21 having scored five goals and notched six assists in the Premier League alone. The winger missed large swaths of last season though having suffered a serious knee injury and was limited to just five league starts.

It remains to be seen how much it would cost for Arsenal to seal a deal for Neto over the next few weeks but Wolves are thought not to be keen on selling one of their star assets. The winger only penned a new five-year deal with the club back in March, a contract that runs until the summer of 2027.

Speaking after committing his future to Wolves, he said: “I’m very happy because it’s felt like home here and I want to continue here. I’m very pleased because I feel very good here, it was three years ago I arrived and I’m very happy.

“I want to work a lot to conquer things with this club because we have the potential to do this kind of stuff. We are working better and better, and I hope to conquer things.”
