A pedestrian has been struck by a car on the Edinburgh City Bypass. Emergency services raced to the A720 southbound near the Straiton Junction after the alarm was raised shortly after 5.10am on Saturday, September 3.
Police were alerted to the crash involving a person and a car as they quickly shut off the busy road. The pedestrian's condition is not yet know.
The road remains closed in both directions and is expected to stay shut "for some time". A diversion is currently in place.
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “We were made aware of a collision involving a car and a pedestrian on the A720 Edinburgh City Bypass southbound near the Straiton Junction shortly after 5.10am on Saturday, September 3.
“Emergency services remain at the scene and the road is currently closed.”
At 10.05am, Transport Scotland confirmed in a Tweet: "The A720 is closed in both directions at Straiton, this is due to a road traffic accident. The road will be closed for some time. Use the available signed diversion route."
