Pedestrian knocked down by car in Edinburgh as police close road

A busy Edinburgh road has been closed by police after a pedestrian was knocked down by a car.

Emergency services were called to the scene on Broomhouse Drive at around 6.30pm on Thursday April 14.

Officers are urging motorists to avoid the area as the scene has been locked down to allow for enquiries to be carried out.

It is not currently known if the person has been badly injured however an ambulance has been pictured at the scene, Edinburgh Live reports.

An eye witness posted an update in a local Facebook group, saying: "Bad accident at Broomhouse roundabout. Looks like someone has been run over."

From the image, an ambulance and several police cars can be seen, with multiple road users stopping at the scene.

Police Scotland posted an update on their social media channels, saying: "Officers are currently in attendance at Broomhouse Drive and Broomhouse Road, Edinburgh, after a pedestrian was struck by a vehicle around 6:30pm.

"The roads are closed and drivers are asked to use an alternative route."

This particular area of the city has already seen huge tailbacks today due to a trailer that caught fire on the city bypass near the Calder junction.

The A720 westbound near Baberton remains closed to traffic following the earlier fire, with traffic also being affected by the incident at Broomhouse Drive.
