A man has died after he was hit by a ute in an alleged “devastating” road rage incident in Sydney’s west on Thursday morning.
Police are looking for the driver of a white ute that struck the 27-year-old man after an alleged exchange of words and then fled the scene on Jersey Road in Blackett.
The victim was treated by paramedics after emergency services were called at about 8.45am, but he died at the scene.
In an initial statement, police said the victim was a pedestrian wearing high-visibility clothing. However, Shane Ranee, an acting inspector for New South Wales police, later told reporters they now believed the victim had been travelling in a car and had felt intimidated by a vehicle following him.
“The victim had gotten out of the vehicle after being threatened by the car following him, and obviously words were said,” Ranee said.
Ranee described the crime scene as “devastating”.
“I feel bad for the victim’s parent, the victims family, and I feel for the driver. Please come forward and hand yourself into police, because we will find you,” he said.
The police described the ute as a white utility with a metal tray, a black canopy and a black toolbox with metal racks on top.
Police established a crime scene and investigations are under way.
