A MAN believed to be in his 30s has died after being struck by a vehicle overnight, north-west of Maitland.
Emergency services were called to the New England Highway at Harpers Hill, between Orient Street and Allandale Road at about 9.30pm on Wednesday, October 30.
They found a man who had been struck by a vehicle. Police allege the vehicle failed to stop.
The man - believed to be aged in his 30s - was treated by NSW Ambulance paramedics, however, he died at the scene. He is yet to be formally identified.
Officers attached to Port Stephens-Hunter Valley Police District established a crime scene, which will be examined by specialist police from the Crash Investigation Unit (CIU).
The incident closed the highway in both directions for several hours with diversions in place at Allandale Road, Lovedale Road and the Hunter Expressway. The road has since reopened.
