Pedestrian airlifted to hospital after being struck by lorry in Cookstown

A pedestrian has been airlifted to hospital after she was believed to have been struck by a lorry at a zebra crossing in Cookstown on Thursday.

William Street in the Co Tyrone town remains closed this afternoon after emergency services, including the Air Ambulance, attended the scene of the crash.

Police say the southbound lane of the main shopping street in the town may be closed for a number of hours this evening following the collision.

The Air Ambulance landed in the Union Street car park area of Cookstown following the incident, and it is understood that emergency services attended to the woman for an hour after the incident, which took place shortly after 2pm.

A lorry remains at the scene of the collision next to the pedestrian crossing, with pictures from the scene on Thursday showing a number of items strewn on the ground next to it.

Police have advised that delays will be expected in the area for the next number of hours.

"Police in Cookstown are currently dealing with a road traffic collision along William street. William street is currently closed to southbound traffic," the PSNI said.

"If you are planning on travelling through Cookstown this evening please allow additional time for your journey as delays are likely for the next few hours."
