The prosecution is currently focusing on Pecker's confirmation regarding the purpose of the National Enquirer's contract with former Playboy model Karen McDougal. It has been established that the main objective of the contract was to suppress McDougal's potentially damaging story about Donald Trump and to influence the 2016 election.
During the questioning by prosecutor Joshua Steinglass, Pecker clarified that the provisions related to McDougal writing articles and appearing on the tabloid's covers were extraneous and merely included in the contract as a disguise. This revelation supports the prosecution's central argument about the true intent behind the agreement.
Pecker further testified that he never disclosed to the company's general counsel the actual purpose of the deal, which was to sway the election. Additionally, he did not inform the attorney about his plan to transfer the rights to Michael Cohen, who had agreed to reimburse him for his involvement.
