Peamount United have accepted an FAI ruling overturning the result of their opening day match with Sligo Rovers after the inadvertently played an ineligible player.
The Peas had originally run out 6-0 winners with Stephanie Roche and Aine O’Gorman both on the double against the league’s newest side.
An oversight meant the Greenogue side fielded a player whose international clearance had not come through. The club brought it to the FAI’s attention as soon as it was discovered.
While player in question is now correctly registered and eligible to play, the FAI ’s disciplinary panel ruled that the result of the game should be overturned and Sligo awarded a 3-0 win.
An FAI statement said: “Following a meeting with the Football Association of Ireland 's Disciplinary Control Unit, it was deemed that Peamount fielded a player who had not been correctly registered.”
Peamount, who had won all five of their games to date, remain top of the table but have played a game more than Shelbourne, with whom they are level on points.
The walkover moves Sligo Rovers to six points from five games and sixth place, a point behind Galway and DLR Waves in the top half.
A Peas statement read: “ Peamount United confirm that we’ve accepted the FAI ruling of a 3-0 defeat in our game against Sligo Rovers for fielding an ineligible player.
“This was as a result of human error which we immediately brought to the attention of the FAI.”
