Peaky Blinders star Tom Hardy says he had everything but 'f****d it up with drugs'

Peaky Blinders star, Tom Hardy, reckons he had everything, but f****d it up after turning to drugs and crime.

The actor, 44, who will resume his role as Alfie Solomons in the new BBC series, checked into rehab in 2003 and became sober aged 25.

The father-of-three told the Daily Mirror in 2017: "If I had four pints of lager and half a bottle of vodka I could turn this room into an absolute f***ing nightmare in about three minutes.

"“I could destroy everything in my life I have worked so hard for.”

"It's the suburbs, the life is so privileged and peaceful and so bloody dull, it gives you the instinctive desire to want to f**k everything up."

Tom had a "privileged and peaceful" childhood in South West London, but admitted he had to 'endanger himself'.

“I got arrested at 15 for joyriding in a stolen Mercedes. And for good measure there was a gun in the car,' he revealed.

“I just had to endanger myself - it was a kind of self-harming.”

The acclaimed actor got his big break in Steven Spielberg’s TV series Band Of Brothers after being spotted in drama school.

However, Tom was battling a crippling drug addiction.

He revealed: “I would have sold my mother for a rock of crack . . . The police would come, people would beat me up, but it never killed me so I was like, ‘All right, what else you got?’"

When he was interviewed for his role in Venom in 2018, he told Good Morning Britain 's Richard Arnold: "For me obviously I am a bog standard alcoholic, for my whole life, in recovery as it were."

Despite his demons, Tom has had an incredibly successful acting career with a load of Hollywood films under his belt.

But it's his performance as Alfie Solomons that fans will be most excited to see as the actor is set to reprise the role in the final series of Peaky Blinders, which starts on BBC One tonight.

When the show revealed its official trailer for series 6, Tom's character Alfie popped up - much to fans' excitement.

The short clip shows Tommy Shelby, played by Cillian Murphy walking through Solomons' rum distillery.

As Alfie appears, Tommy says: "Alfie, I think I may have written your final act."

Fans reckon they've worked out why Alfie is back, suggesting that Tommy needs the gang leader to take on the fascist party leader, Oswald Mosley, played by Sam Clafin.

Viewers think despite the pair's history of bad blood - Alfie may be exactly who Tommy needs.

Peaky Blinders starts tonight on BBC One at 9pm.
