Peaky Blinders star looks unrecognisable as he undergoes major weight loss for new role

Peaky Blinders star Cillian Murphy has undergone a really drastic physical appearance in order to play a new role in Christopher Nolan's next film.

As reported by Birmingham Live, Cillian will take the lead in the new movie as late theoretical physicist, J. Robert Oppenheimer, known for his creation of the atomic bomb.

In order to properly get into character, the 45-year-old has lost "at least a stone", according to reports.

In photos posted by the Daily Mail initially, Cillian can be seen looking a lot lankier as he films scenes with his co-stars Florence Pugh and Emily Blunt.

He was also recently spotted filming outside the Fuller Lodge in the Los Alamos research facility – where the atomic bomb was first built – alongside Matt Damon.

Cillian also changed up his looks to film for Peaky Blinders as well - this isn't his first rodeo!

He admitted to RadioTimes Magazine at the time: "I’m not a very physically imposing person. So I have to eat a lot of protein and lift a lot of weights and do all that stuff. So that takes a while, which I hate."

Oppenheimer also stars Robert Downey Jr., Dane DeHaan and Rami Malek. Oscar winner Gary Oldman also plays a small role as President Truman in the biographical film, which is currently set to be released on July 21, 2023.

However, Cillian is best known for his formidable role as Tommy Shelby, in BBC hit drama Peaky Blinders, but other roles include A Quiet Place II, Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy.

Cillian's newest film will be released on July 21, 2023 in cinemas everywhere.
