Cillian Murphy looks unrecognisable after losing weight for his new acting role.
The Peaky Blinders star is starring in Christopher Nolan's upcoming film, Oppenheimer, taking the lead as the late American theoretical physicist J. Robert Oppenheimer, also known as the father of the atomic bomb.
Cillian has been spotted in Los Angeles shooting scenes for the movie, and looks miles different from when he appeared in Peaky Blinders.
The 45-year-old actor "lost at least a stone", according to reports, to fit the late physician's lanky frame, writes Birmingham Live.
Cillian is seen sporting a slimmed down figure as he shot scenes with co-stars Emily Blunt and Florence Pugh, in pictures revealed by the Mail.
He was also recently seen filming outside the Fuller Lodge in the Los Alamos research facility alongside actor Matt Damon, where the atomic bomb was first built.
This is not the first time the Tommy Shelby actor tipped the scales for his acting roles.
Cillian admitted he had to gain a substantial amount of muscle for his Peaky Blinders character.
He previously told RadioTimes Magazine: "I’m not a very physically imposing person. So I have to eat a lot of protein and lift a lot of weights and do all that stuff. So that takes a while, which I hate."
The movie Oppenheimer is set to be released on July 21 next year.
The biographical film details to the life of J. Robert Oppenheimer, with a star-studded cast set to make an appearance.
The film stars Robert Downey Jr., Dane DeHaan and Rami Malek, as well as Oscar winner Gary Oldman, who also plays a small role as President Truman.
Cillian is best known for his critically-acclaimed role in BBC 's hit gangster drama, Peaky Blinders, which has finished in its sixth and final season.
He has also played roles in A Quiet Place II, Inception and The Dark Knight Trilogy.
