Peaky Blinders spin-off cast named as story moves to post-war Birmingham

Jamie Bell and Charlie Heaton have been announced as key cast members for a new Peaky Blinders spin-off series.

The sequel will continue the story from the acclaimed television series, which concluded in 2022 and starred Cillian Murphy as the ruthless gangster Tommy Shelby.

Award-winning actor Bell will portray Duke "Erasmus" Shelby, the new leader of the violent crime gang.

The narrative picks up a decade after the events of the newly-released film, The Immortal Man.

Set in 1950s Birmingham, the series will explore the city's post-Second World War landscape, following an "older, wiser, more ambitious and more dangerous" Duke.

Stranger Things star Heaton will also be joining the cast of the new series, as well as Downton Abbey actress Jessica Brown Findlay and The Day Of The Jackal star Lashana Lynch.

Actress Lucy Karczewski is also among the additions to the cast and will be making her television debut in the series.

Steven Knight, the creator and writer of Peaky Blinders, said: “I am thrilled that we are announcing a new era of Peaky Blinders, moving the story to post-war Birmingham in the early 50s.

“We are incredibly fortunate to have Jamie Bell taking the role of Tommy Shelby’s oldest son, Duke, and to have Charlie Heaton also leading the cast.

“There are more exciting cast announcements to come, and Peaky is on the road again.”

The announcement comes just weeks after the release of Peaky Blinders: The Immortal Man, a spin-off film from the hit series in which Murphy reprised his role as ruthless gangster Shelby.

The TV series following Birmingham-based crime family the Shelbys was first launched on the BBC in 2013, and has since become a globally successful franchise.

The new show has been commissioned for two series, each with six 60-minute-long episodes, and it will be available to watch on BBC iPlayer, BBC One and Netflix.

Further details are yet to be announced.
