Peaky Blinders fans fume as Welsh actor Aneurin Barnard makes debut and delivers health blow to Tommy

As BBC drama Peaky Blinders nears the end of the sixth and final series there have been many plot twists and shocks along the way. And when Welsh actor Aneurin Barnard made a surprise debut on Sunday, March 20 fans were not happy. You can read more about series six here.

Don't read on if you want to avoid spoilers... Playing Dr Holford, Aneurin first appeared in the drama in episode four, to deliver some grave and life-changing news to Tommy Shelby, who is played by Cillian Murphy. Throughout the series Tommy had been ignoring urgent letters and calls from the hospital resulting in Dr Holford paying Tommy a home visit.

Here he broke the news that Tommy had an incurable brain tumour and one he was highly likely to die from. Tommy also received the news that as the tumour grew he would continue to deteriorate, suffering from seizures and hallucinations.

Fans were devastated that after six series of dodging death, bullets, rival gangs, and everything else Tommy had gone through the series would result in him dying from a brain tumour and took to Twitter to express their rage.

One said: "6 seasons and your (sic) telling me I'm going to have to watch Tommy Shelby slowly die. Can't do this to me #PeakyBlinders"

Another added: "6 seasons of near death experiences and you are telling me he's gonna die by disease #PeakyBlinders"

A third added: "I demand to see that mans doctors (sic) license"

And: "9 years and now I'm gonna have to watch Tommy Shelby deteriorate in front of my very eyes #PeakyBlinders"

Also: "You're telling me...They're killing Tommy Shelby...With a illness?!?"

Peaky Blinders will continue on BBC One on Sunday, March, 27 at 9.00pm.
