Peaky Blinders actor set to star in final season of Derry Girls

A Peaky Blinders actor has bagged themselves a role in the final season of Derry Girls.

Actor Emmett J Scanlan, who also starred in RTE's 'Kin' last year, has revealed that he is set to swap Birmingham for the streets of Derry.

The final season of the hit show, created by Lisa McGee, will air later this year.

“I’m going to be in the UK version of Call My Agent and then I got a part in the final season of Derry Girls," Scanlan answered when asked what his plans were now following Peaky Blinders.

"Derry Girls is not unlike Peaky Blinders; it’s bucket-list stuff and to be able to team back up with Lisa McGee, who I worked with on The Deceived, is wonderful.

“She’s an extraordinary talent."

Emmett said it was "a dream come true" to star in the final season of the BBC's Peaky Blinders, which aired on Sunday.

He told RTE Guide: “It was a dream come true for me to get a part on Peaky Blinders, and to get that call to come back for the final season is even better. You know if you haven’t been killed off that there’s a chance you’ll come back, you’re never certain.

“They left the end of season five in a situation where you didn’t know who betrayed the Shelbys, who the rat was, and since Billy was one of those suspects, I thought there was a chance of returning and being part of the tapestry of what I think is one of the greatest UK shows."

He added: “Being on that set and meeting the actors and getting to dance with their characters when the cameras are rolling is just brilliant.

“I want my career to be littered with moments like that, bucket-list moments and it’s happening more and more as the years go on."
