Axar Patel and David Miller lead Delhi’s fightback

After slipping to 33/3 inside the opening five overs, Delhi found stability through skipper Axar Patel and David Miller. The two stitched together a crucial 64-run partnership for the fifth wicket to revive the chase.

Axar, who had managed only 44 runs in his previous eight innings, delivered when it mattered most with a blistering half-century. Miller matched the momentum as both batters attacked Punjab’s pace-heavy bowling unit with aggressive strokeplay.

Ashutosh Sharma and Madhav Tiwari finish the job

Even after Axar and Miller departed shortly after reaching their fifties, Delhi maintained the pressure. Impact player Ashutosh Sharma and debutant Madhav Tiwari launched a late assault, smashing multiple sixes to swing the match firmly in Delhi’s favour. Auqib Nabi sealed the memorable win with a straight six off Yash Thakur, helping Delhi complete the chase with six balls remaining.

Speaking after the win, Axar said Delhi had been playing quality cricket despite struggling in crunch moments earlier in the season.

“We are a good team, playing good cricket but not winning the crucial moments. I am really happy with how we played and hopefully we continue playing like this,” Axar said. He also praised the side’s bench strength and young players for stepping up under pressure.

Priyansh Arya powers Punjab Kings to 210/5

Earlier, Priyansh Arya gave Punjab a flying start with an explosive innings, including a six off the very first ball from Mitchell Starc. Starc conceded 22 runs in the opening over as Punjab dominated the powerplay.

After a brief middle-order wobble, skipper Shreyas Iyer and Cooper Connolly steadied the innings with an 83-run stand for the third wicket.

Late fireworks from Suryansh Shedge, who scored 21 off just eight balls, lifted Punjab to a commanding 210/5, but Delhi’s record-breaking chase ultimately overshadowed their effort.
