Pauline McLynn opens up about working with former Father Ted co-star Ardal O'Hanlon 25 years later

Top actress Pauline McLynn has opened up about working with her former Father Ted co-star Ardal O’Hanlon 25 years later - saying she laughed for five minutes when she was told the news.

Pauline - best known for her role as tea-obsessed Ms Doyle - is set to star alongside Ardal O’Hanlon in a new Sky show, Rosie Molloy Gives Up Everything.

The pair will play a married couple whose daughter Rosie is addicted to everything and has to try and give it all up.

Opening about working with Ardal again a quarter of a century later, Pauline said: “The producers were like, 'are you not curious as to who is playing your husband?'

“So I said well, obviously I am. They said it’s Ardal O’Hanlon.

“According to the producer I just laughed for about five minutes and I said ‘that’s a good laugh’.

“I’ve no idea why it’s taken 25 years.

“I don’t know. I guess we were just off doing other things.

“Or else Ardal has a court order that I don’t know about,” she said jokingly at Sky’s Up Next star-studded event in London’s Theatre Royal, Drury Lane.

Pauline also opened up her most famous role as Ms Doyle in Father Ted saying she’s always delighted people still want to talk about it years later.

“I do get shouted at on the street alot or people asking me for tea and I don’t have it - that’s the only drawback if there is one.

“It’s a joy that all these years later people still want to talk about it,” she added.
