Paul Scholes slams how Jadon Sancho and Co have pulled the wool over Man Utd's eyes

Manchester United legend Paul Scholes has appeared to target Jadon Sancho and the Red Devils' other big-money signings for fooling the club.

United splashed out £70million on Sancho this summer as he arrived from Borussia Dortmund, but the England international has endured a stuttering start to life at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils were expected to challenge for the Premier League under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer this season, but it's not gone to plan for United, as top-four is now looking like a tough ask.

And Scholes has slammed how Sancho and others have pulled the wool over United's eyes, which may explain why success is yet to come.

United spent over £130m this summer as Sancho was brought in alongside serial winners Cristiano Ronaldo and Raphael Varane, but despite a good start to the season, their form took a drastic turn.

With the club in turmoil, Solskjaer was sacked after a brutal 4-1 defeat away to Watford, and United are only just holding on to fourth spot in the Premier League, with Arsenal and Tottenham hunting them down.

On paper, United have one of the most talented squads in the league, but Scholes believes that this illusion as pulled the wool over everyone's eyes, as he took aim at Sancho.

Speaking on BT Sport, Scholes said: "Look, as a club it’s the biggest club in the world I think and it needs to be winning trophies.

"They spend a lot of money year in, year out, on players - we think the best players at times - but they haven’t produced. We thought this year was going to be a little bit different.

"We had some really good young players but these young players everybody thinks are great players aren’t yet. They aren’t great players until they’ve won something.

"We keep talking about the potential to win something, the potential to prove it in big games - they haven’t done that yet and they got to prove they can do that."

Sancho was the only young, up and coming signing that United made this summer, and Scholes has suggested that he has to produce in order to be accepted as a top quality player, but he isn't the only one.

Although they came through the academy, Marcus Rashford and Anthony Elanga have a tremendous weight on their shoulders, as they will have to be at the top of their game if United are to end their trophy drought and return to their former glory.

But the experienced players have also been blamed for not leading by example, as Rio Ferdinand claimed that the whole team isn't good enough.

Ferdinand added: "You need eleven stroke thirteen, fourteen players every game to go out and perform and Manchester United have been guilty of not being able to do that enough."
