Paul Scholes praises Manchester United attacking partnership that returned vs Everton

Paul Scholes praised the link-up play between Marcus Rashford and Anthony Martial but expressed concerns over what looked to be a fresh injury for the former.

Martial has returned from a frustrating spate of fitness issues with three appearances off the bench in recent weeks. The France international notched a first goal of his comeback in the 2-0 win over Everton on Saturday, slotting home a simple finish after Rashford pounced on Seamus Coleman's error.

Seeing the pair work in tandem has been rare this season, with Martial enduring long spells on the sidelines. And despite promising signs that the telepathy has remained, Rashford leaving the pitch with what looked like a groin injury will be of huge concern going into the run-in.

"Look, it’s great to have [Martial] back," Scholes told BT Sport. "We all know the quality he’s got, it’s just can he get through it now? Can he get through until the end of the season? He hasn’t got a great record fitness-wise but we all know how good of a player he is. If he’s playing in this team he scores 20-25 goals and that adds up to that big gap between Man United and City and Arsenal.

"[Rashford's injury] is a little bit of a blow, I hope he’s okay. Just as Martial comes back then he goes out - them two together play really well, they have some kind of link that has been missing in forward areas, they’re both very dangerous.

"I hope Marcus is okay, he gives that option and as I said before the game, you need four or five players who can contribute to try and get you up to 70-80 goals. Marcus and Martial together could probably bring half of those."

Erik ten Hag admitted after the game that Rashford's injury 'didn't look good' but said they will test the 25-year-old further in the coming days. The Reds have six more games to come in a packed April schedule, including a Europa League quarter-final tie against Sevilla next week.
