Paul Scholes says he would have preferred playing alongside Casemiro in midfield as opposed to Bruno Fernandes and Christian Eriksen.
The Old Trafford hero said he’d feel more comfortable with a deep-lying central partner that would allow him to get forward, and explained how it would have been an “absolute disaster" playing with fellow attack-minded stars Fernandes and Eriksen.
After a staggered start after his arrival, Casemiro has become an admired part of United’s first-choice midfield. He has been effective going both ways, intercepting attacks while also assisting and scoring himself.

He has found his shooting boots for Brazil in the World Cup too, scoring the late decisive strike in their 1-0 win over Switzerland on Monday to ensure his country’s place in the knockouts.
Scholes was adamant about which of the three current United starting midfielders he’d rather operate alongside. “I’d much prefer to play with Casemiro, someone who I knew could play the position really well,” he said.
“He reminds me a bit of Michael Carrick, Roy Keane and Nicky Butt - those kinds of players. With Bruno I think he’d be all over the place, I think with us two in midfield it would be an absolute disaster.
“We’d both want to be up the field contributing and scoring goals and trying to win games.” He added: “I love Christian Eriksen, I think he’s brilliant but he’s a little bit more like me and just worried about the attacking side of things.
“I think if me and Christian or Bruno played together, the games could be six-all. We would concede a lot of goals - we might score a few but I think just having that added security with Casemiro.
“I played with Michael Carrick, Roy Keane, Nicky Butt - they’re the type of players I prefer to play with.”
