Paul Scholes makes Cristiano Ronaldo prediction at Manchester United

Paul Scholes has predicted that Cristiano Ronaldo will work his way back into the Manchester United starting XI for Premier League matches soon.

Ronaldo started his second game in a row for Erik ten Hag following injury to Marcus Rashford. The 37-year-old repaid his manager's faith in him by scoring his first of the campaign from the penalty spot.

After Diogo Dalot was fouled in the box, Ronaldo confidently stepped up to score his first goal of the season. It was United's second of the game after Jadon Sancho had given Ten Hag's side the lead against FC Sheriff.

Before the game, the discussion inside the BT Sport studio focused on whether Ronaldo could now be classed as a 'Europa League player'. So far this season, the forward has started just three matches, two of which have come in the European competition.

Despite this, Scholes was quick to point out that the Portuguese star is far from just that. "We can’t call him a Europa League player, we just can’t," the 47-year-old explained. "He’s a Champions League player, of course he is. He’s at a club where he’s going to have to settle for that (the Europa League), for now. It gives him a chance on those Thursday nights, if he’s playing, to score goals and get himself in the team for the Premier League games - which is where I’m sure he’ll want to be playing and I’m sure he’ll work his way in there."
